Alonso LlosaAssistant Professor

Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Alonso Llosa is a writer-director, film editor and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Film and Media at Emory University.

Alonso’s award winning short film Living Legend had a long festival run (Hamptons International Film Festival, Palms Springs Shortfest) and was acquired by HBO. The Restoration, Alonso’s darkly comedic first feature, premiered in competition at Santa Barbara International Film Festival, was an official selection at Vancouver International Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara, Shanghai International Film Festival, among many others; it was the recipient of the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at San Diego Latino Film Festival, Best Directing at Argentina’s Festival de Cine de las Alturas and won five awards at Guayaquil International Film Festival including Best Screenplay, Best Directing and Best Picture.

In his work, Alonso seeks to fuse dark comedy, social commentary and drama. Alonso holds degrees from UCLA (BA) and Columbia University (MFA). Among the projects he is currently developing are a new feature film set in his native Peru, a documentary short film and a sci-fi graphic novel.
